PIPE - KOTE

( Anticorrosive Pipe Coating Tape )

INTRODUCTION

PIPE-KOTE (a) is a hot-applied Tar coating in tape form that provides coating and wrapping benefits in the field equivalent to mill-applied coal tar - asphalt or plastics. Excellent bonding, dielectric and mechanical strength qualities in a single wrap, may be applied at any temperature with just the flash of a torch to bleed the roll and as a tough "Outer Wrap".

PROCEDURE FOR COATING

The pipe shall be cleaned of all rust, grease, dirt etc. by brush. Sand Blasting is not necessary as tar firmly adheres to steel. The surface shall be dry at the time of applying primer. All primed pipes will be allowed to dry till surface becomes" Just Dry".

PIPE-KOTE is designed to take full advantage of the tested inherent quality, intimately bonded tar coating for preventing corrosion and providing water proofing protection. The PIPE-KOTE tape is comprised of thick adhesive layers of tar compound bonded for tough, flexible plastic outer carrier films of various tapes.

 HOT APPLICATION:

Tape shall be heated by the means of a blowtorch in this process, the inner surface of the TAPE, being laminated Polyethylene layer, is burnt while at the same time, polymeric mix under it soften taking care that the center core is not over heated. This molten polymeric mix is then pressed over the pipe surface so that as far as possible air is not entrapped.

FEATURES AND BENEFITS:

1.     Adhesive: Tar bonds quickly and easily to metal surfaces to be protected. After application of primer.

2.     Dual Barrier Protection: PIPE-KOTE offers dual Barrier Protection. One with Polyethylene film and other with the layers of tar.

3.     Self Sealing : PIPE-KOTE tar compound forms an excellent bond at the overlap because tar layers stick to each other. PIPE-KOTE tape adhesion surpasses any other product.

PRIMER SUITABLE FOR PIPE-KOTE

Any solvent based rubberized coaltar primer will besuitable. It offers excellent adhesion of PIPE-KOTE TAPE to the pipe surface. The primer with density of 0.900 to 0.950 gm/cc and drying time about 15 mins, temperature of 30 deg c.

PIPE-KOTE is manufactured to conform to

requirements of IS- 10221, Appendix B

and also to AWWA-C-203 section : 8

PIPE-KOTE is recommended for use on various types of pipelines :

1.     Cross country WATER LINES, OIL, GAS LINES   2. Sewage lines    3. Fire Hydrant lines.

Excellent bonding, dielectric and mechanical strength qualities in a single wrap, may be applied at any temperature with just the flash of a torch to bleed the roll and as a tough “Outer Wrap".

PROCEDURE FOR COATING
  1.  One coat of fast drying synthetic primer @25microns DFT/Coat by brush or spray after surface preparation.

  2. One layer of coal tar tape coating with 2-mm thickness on the surface of primed pipe after touch dry.

  3. Second coat of fast drying synthetic primer @25 microns DFT/Coat by brush or spray on 1st layer of tape coating.

  4. Second layer of coal tar tape coating with 2 mm thickness on the surface or primer pipe after touch.
